Due to significant growth in our business, we are now seeking to recruit a Research and Social Listening Assistant on a 4-month fixed term contract to provide support and additional capacity for our Digital Analysis and Research Team. In addition, there may be the opportunity for an extension at the end of four months, with the view to a potential offer for a permanent role.

This is a unique opportunity to deploy your research skills to monitor emerging trends and threats to children and young people online. Your role will be to collect, analyse and synthesise data from a range of sources.

As a Junior Research Assistant, you will have the opportunity to use your research skills to impact and support the work we do – to help make people safer.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conduct data analysis and social listening to monitor emerging trends, risks, and threats to children and safeguarding partners.
  • Collect and Interpret data, information, and open-source intelligence to inform reports, safeguarding updates, casework, and business objectives.
  • Provide research support for monitoring and evaluation activities, investigations, reviews, and safeguarding inquiries.
  • Produce high-level insight reports to support the delivery of innovative research products.

  • Present and communicate research in appropriate and accessible formats for a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Support the research team to source safeguarding information from local authorities and other partners using FOIs and other research instruments.
  • Work collaboratively across teams to provide assistive research support to meet the needs of our diverse customer base.
  • Ensure compliance with established standards of quality assurance and research/business ethics.
  • Develop and maintain a contemporary insight into current understandings of relevant statutory guidance and sector-specific best practice.
  • Assisting in collating and organising data sets and analytics.
  • Providing general administration support.

Requirements

  • 2:1 or above in a degree inclusive of research modules, e.g., sociology/criminology/psychology or other social science or equivalent.
  • Excellent research, data collection and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that can be flexible to meet the needs of others.
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of social research methods, including both qualitative and quantitative techniques.
  • Experience in using a range of research packages, including SPSS and NVivo.
  • High attention to detail and a thorough approach to research practice.
  • A high level of integrity and resilience to deal with sensitive and confidential matters.
  • An established level of computer literacy, including MS Office.
  • Excellent organisational with the ability to prioritise competing demands and maintain focus under pressure.
  • A positive outlook and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • A keen interest in online safety and child protection.
  • Practical experience of working with children and young people at risk.
  • A determination and committed approach to continued professional development.
  • A good understanding of contemporary technology and social media and its use by children and young people.
  • Knowledge and experience of putting ‘research into practice.’
  • The ability to assess risk, analyse and report on findings.
  • Experience of using open source material to inform reports.
