Overview

As the key point of contact for safeguarding in your setting, the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) plays a crucial role in protecting children and young people from harm. This course provides a deep dive into the responsibilities of the DSL, equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead safeguarding effectively.

You’ll explore complex safeguarding concerns including online harm, exploitation, and child-on-child abuse, and learn how to respond with clarity, make confident decisions, and work effectively with external agencies. Grounded in UK legislation and guidance, this course also supports you to embed a strong safeguarding culture across your whole organisation.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Gain a clear understanding of the statutory responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead role.
  • Learn how to identify and respond to a wide range of safeguarding concerns, including online risks, child-on-child abuse, and exploitation.
  • Understand of appropriate thresholds and procedures to make referrals and escalate concerns confidently.
