Safeguarding Children and Young People (Level 3)

Overview

Designed for those with safeguarding leadership responsibilities, this course goes beyond introductory knowledge to explore what effective safeguarding leadership looks like in practice.

Delivered over 3 hours, participants will strengthen their understanding of statutory duties, thresholds of need, and how to manage complex safeguarding concerns with confidence. The session includes updated learning on managing disclosures, recording and reporting concerns, information sharing, and working with external agencies. Participants will also reflect on the latest risks facing children (including online harms) and how to embed a strong safeguarding culture across their setting.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Understand the statutory role of the DSL and how it differs from general safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Recognise and respond to complex safeguarding concerns, including those involving contextual and online risk.
  • Apply good practice in managing disclosures, escalating concerns, and maintaining accurate safeguarding records.
  • Develop confidence in applying thresholds and working collaboratively with external agencies.
  • Reflect on how to lead a whole-setting approach to safeguarding, including staff awareness and policy implementation.
