SSNAP Workshop – Offline Learning About Online Risks

Overview

The SSNAP (Safer Social Networking Activity Pack) workshop is an interactive training session that provides safeguarding professionals with a unique insight into how children and young people engage with social media. Using scenario-based learning with physical cards, participants explore real-life safeguarding incidents, case studies, and learning reviews to identify risks, understand behaviours, and consider potential consequences.

The activity pack allows participants to view social media in a paused, simplified way, making it easier to see risks and opportunities that may otherwise go unnoticed. With a focus on issues such as geolocation, anonymity, encryption, and harmful online behaviours, this training equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to apply their learning to strengthen safeguarding practice within their organisation.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Recognise the ways children and young people use and interact with social media.
  • Identify online safeguarding risks, including grooming, location sharing, anonymity, encryption, and other emerging digital trends.
  • Analyse scenarios based on real safeguarding incidents to understand risk and protective factors.
  • Apply learning to support safer online engagement and digital resilience in practice.
  • Develop strategies to share knowledge and strengthen safeguarding responses across their organisation.
