Young People & Sexting: Exploration or Exploitation?
Overview
For many young people, digital life is simply life. Whether they’re socialising, researching, gaming, or sharing content, there is often little distinction between their online and offline experiences. But when it comes to sending images, the risks can be significant and the motivations complex.
This session explores the realities of youth-produced sexual imagery, often referred to as ‘sexting’. Participants will examine the pressures and perceptions that drive image sharing, and how these behaviours can shift from exploration to exploitation. You’ll gain a clearer understanding of the legal, emotional, and social consequences for young people, and develop practical strategies to respond appropriately, without blame or judgement. Whether you’re a professional or volunteer, this session equips you to support young people with confidence and care.

- Understand the risks and potential impact of image sharing on young people.
