Masculinity in a Digital World Workshop
Overview
Online spaces can have a big influence on how we see ourselves and others. For many young people, messages about what it means to ‘be a man’ can be confusing or extreme, especially when shared by online communities that promote hate or division.
This workshop helps young people explore the difference between healthy and harmful ideas about masculinity, understand how some online spaces can spread negative or toxic messages, and learn positive ways to respond.
Through interactive discussions, group activities, and real-world examples, participants will build confidence to think critically, challenge harmful behaviour, and support one another both online and offline.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, students will:
- Understand what masculinity means to them and recognise that there is no single way to ‘be a man’.
- Explore how online content and influencers can shape attitudes about gender, relationships, and identity.
- Recognise signs of harmful or misogynistic behaviour online and know how it can affect people’s wellbeing.
- Develop strategies to respond safely and positively when they see or experience harmful messages.
